I use Flickr, I love it. Not everyone uses it, of course, but I find it far, far and away the best photo and collaboration site out there. I've considered in the past it would be fun to pool board wx pictures there, but I, just tonight, noticed a feature that almost makes this a must.

Mapping.

As you drill in, like google maps, it will get more detailed and you can get down to the block where the picture was taken. I think this would be a blast for the winter.

I could set the group up to be by approval only, so we could keep it "private," though it would be good advertising for the board.

OK, I double-checked. The group pools and maps are browsable to people who are not logged in, and if you have a free account the mapping feature is still available.

I threw some of my pictures in there and mapped some. The map feature (geotagging) is very cool - you can drill down to the block.

I belong to flickr, How do I upload photos to the group?

A few ways. When you are looking at an individual picture, there is an icon above "Send to Group" and when you click, it should load the groups in which you are a member.

Or, click on "Organize" - that's very cool and where you can also start mapping pictures in bulk.

how many uploads do you need before people can view your photos? i only ever did 2 but i think both never went public... not sure i understand how that all works./

I like this whole group idea, but I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of the Flickr site in general. Now maybe I'm just a dumbass, but it seems like the layout is anything but intuitive. It took me about five minutes to figure out how to add pictures to the map, and I still can't figure out how to get the tags from my pictures to show up in the pool. I already have tags on most of mine but they aren't appearing on that page, so I guess I need to tag the same photos again for the purposes of this group?

You can set permissions to be just about whatever you want public, restrict to contacts, restrict to friends/family, but I believe the default is public.
