October 10th;
1804 - A famous snow hurricane occurred. The unusual coastal storm caused northerly gales from Maine to New Jersey. Heavy snow fell across New England, with three feet reported at the crest of the Green Mountains. A foot of snow was reported in the Berkshires of southern New England, at Goshen CT. (David Ludlum)
1928 - The temperature at Minneapolis, MN, reached 90 degrees, their latest such reading of record. (The Weather Channel)
1973 - Fifteen to 20 inch rains deluged north central Oklahoma in thirteen hours producing record flooding. Enid was drenched with 15.68 inches of rain from the nearly stationary thunderstorms, which established a state 24 hour rainfall record. Dover OK reported 125 of 150 homes damaged by flooding. 1979 - The earliest measurable snowfall was recorded at Boston, Massachusetts with .2 inches falling. The storm blanketed the Blue Hill observatory, just south of Boston at an elevation of 635 feet, with more than 7 inches of snow. Record cold produced temperatures in the low 30s as far south as Newark , New Jersey (The Weather Channel).
1987 - Eleven cities in the north central U.S. reported record low temperatures for the date, including Colorado Springs CO with a reading of 23 degrees, and Havre MT with a low of 11 degrees above zero. Light snow was reported as far south as Kansas. Omaha NE reported their third earliest snow of record. (The National Weather Summary)
1988 - Sunny and mild weather prevailed across the nation for Columbus Day. The afternoon high of 77 degrees at Kalispell MT was the warmest reading of record for so late in the autumn season. Thunderstorms developing along a cold front produced wind gusts to 56 mph at Lorain OH. The heavy rain caused extensive flooding of homes and businesses, and left some roads under three feet of water. Ten cities from South Carolina to New England reported record low temperatures for the date, including Concord NH with a reading of 23 degrees. Temperatures dipped into the 30s in the Carolinas. 1991 -Sacramento, California hit 100 degrees. This set three records The high of 100 broke the old daily record by 7 degrees. The high was the warmest temperature for so late in the season and the latest 100 degree reading on record.

Thunderstorm rainfall of 3.62 inches led to Peoria's wettest October day on record. Normal for the entire month is 2.65 inches. The thunderstorm also produced a tornado along the Tazewell/Woodford County border east of Morton, damaging the roof on a house.

1996: It was 100° in Victorville, the latest date in the season to record 100° or higher on record.
1986: Thunderstorms dropped 2.40 inches of rain on Mt. Laguna, 2.10 inches at Campo, 2.03 inches at Julian, 1.90
inches at El Cajon, 1.50 inches at Alpine, 1.39 inches at San Diego, and 0.41 inch at Miramar. Most of these became
daily rainfall records. Hail the size of marbles was reported in San Diego’s east county. Rainwater flooded through a
leaky roof at downtown San Diego police headquarters.

October 10th, what a day -- 3 inches of snow and temperature stuck at 33 all day, for a 34 degree departure

1977: A few locations received early snow, including Minneapolis with 2.5 inches, Gaylord with 2 inches, and Jordan with 2 inches of snow.
1970: Early snowfall was recorded in west central Minnesota. Snow totals ranged from a trace to 4.2 inches in Benson. Other areas included Montevideo with 4 inches, Canby with 3.2 inches, Morris with 2.6 inches, Willmar with 2.5 inches. New London, New Ulm, and Buffalo all recorded 2 inches of snowfall.
1949: Bizzare storm brings Hurricane force winds across Minnesota. This was possibly the strongest non-thunderstorm winds seen in Minnesota. Top winds were clocked at 100 mph at Rochester, with a gust of 89 mph at the Twin Cities International Airport. 4 deaths and 81 injuries were reported. Numerous store windows were broken, and large chimneys toppled. The top 10 floors of the Foshay building were evacuated with the tenants feeling seasick from the swaying building.

The 1979 event made it to Farmington (most actually fell on 10/9, but 7 AM obs recorded it as 10/10), but not to Ft. Kent, where 10/9-10 were cloudy and cool with just a few flakes.
