saw the thread about March 58......It is likely that it would be #1 at IAD.....based on nearby coops, it is likely that IAD got between 15-20"

2 storms the last half of March up here in 58, 10" and 30", I suppose that wouldnt be a bad way to end the winter.

I'd say it is pretty likely considering how similar this winter has been to 57-58 so far..... :gun_bandana:

From a previous thread last year, overlapping with zwyts' list:
4"+ March snowstorms at IAD
3/30-4/1/1964: 7.6" (But there seemed to have been a >30 hour break between snowfall on the 3/30 and the 3/31-4/1 part)
2/28-3/1/68: 6.1"
3/12/68: 4.5"
3/1-2/69: 7.5"
3/9/76: 6.4"
3/3/78: 4.9"
3/1-2/80: 6.4"
3/8/84: 4.7"
3/29/84: 4.2"
3/24-25/90: 4.2"
3/13-14/93: 14.1"
3/1-2/94: 6.4"
3/7-8/96: 4.1"
3/9/99: 8.9"
3/14-15/99: 5.4"
3/1-2/09: 6.0"

The gap from 1999 to this year was the longest ever.

Check out the Kocin map for March 58. Carroll County is painted in red. Parts of southern PA too. Big elevation effect with that storm. I think Baltimore recorded 22 inches in the higher spots.

It would be soemthing after the dreak of the recent years to have March 2009 top all the DJF of late except for 2/06. The March events of the late 1950's well may ahve been teh ushering in of a specail decade.
