Could be what LWX had mentioned in their afternoon discussion with temps rising as warmer air gets dragged down by heavier pockets of precip.

Meanwhile, in Weather Hell (Ashburn), we've fallen to our low for the day at 32.0F....and we have a decent amount of sleet.
First time all day that I've noticed sleet in the rain.

Now that's just not right... freezing rain in Arlington, but just wet rain out here in Chantilly?
And we even have the temps for -- just under 30 degrees!

Nope, not a bit of it.
Checked the metal outdoor furniture on the deck, the railing going down to the basement, the needs on the pine trees, and even the little metal caps on the fence posts. No ice anywhere.

You know, the local radar backs this up. A slice of pink running through Arlington out to Fair Lakes (maybe), but not out to Chantilly.

Steady rain, 0.92" today, most of it since 4PM. The highest rate was 0.25"/hr, so it hasn't been a gully washer. If we get that other inch tonight, the small streams here will be at bank full for sure.

Sure does look like on radar that the rains are training to the West. Dryslot forming South and East of here. I'm sure it all slides East overnight. Temps still around 31.3 or so

Finally went above freezing here, now 32.5. We were lucky that it was mild preceeding this event. Had we been coming off a night of temps in the teens or 20's we would have had some serious surface problems but yesterday's around 50 did not allow for that. I think by 8pm tonight I was progged to be at 37/38 but was still sitting at 31, still lots of ice hanging off the trees.

Been steady at 30°(f) here, but for more accuracy I should put the mobile weather station out so that I can get a better temperature reading.
