Gibbs has been advertising a torch coming late this weekend into next week and that looks good based on the 850 temps from both the 00Z gfs and euro. Below I've posted the euro that Gibbs showed in another thread.

Hopefully, it's not the template for this winter. 80 degrees certainly looks doable based on the prog. If this is a template, let's hope for a 19-73-1974 winter.

Where we got 16.7 inches of snow at dca despite the torch rather than a 1975-1976 winter which had a cold start with no snow and then a no snow torch for 2.2 inches of snow for the season. 1973 there was a big dec storm with more than 10 inches dec 16-17.

no doubt it will get warm, but this kind of heat is not uncommon in Octobers around DCA/BWI considering record highs for October at DCA are in the low to mid 80's
as for whether it will be a template, I think 95/96 proved to me that no matter how cold and snowy we may be in a NINA, we're going to have our fair share of well above normal periods; and we are most assuredly guaranteed to have more warmth this winter than 95/96 had
don't get me wrong, I'd prefer cool/cold over warmth, but the homeowner/wx weenie reminds me that there's no chance of decent snow this early in the season so at least we're not "wasting" cold air nor $ on G&E bills

And here's hoping for a 1973-74 style winter as well....even if it does feature wide swings in temps. There was also a snowstorm a few days earlier on 12/11/73 that hit Richmond with 4.9" of snow. Funny how we almost hit 60°F between the two snowstorms, though. One other intestesting fact, is that we hit 3°F on the 18th.....the 4th coldest December day on record. Two decent early season snowstorms totaling 10" and another in early February for a season total of 15.6" isn't too bad for us.

As long as a carbon copy of 1975-76 doesn't unfold. Richmond only received 1.1" of snow and hit 70°F 13 times that winter (DJF).....the most on record for any winter.

Totally agree,it has gotten this warm before...it is only October!

MOS has dca 78 on Tuesday and 79 on Wed. The warmest it gets at IAD is 78 on Wed. Whether we eek up to 80 may depend on clouds and for sure wind direction.
