The weather channel is aimed towards the older audance, not meteorologist or hobbiest. I never watch it unless I away from the computer on a vacation. Their weekly planner is pretty close to the GFS. Other wise, the only other time might be for their hurricane expert John Hope who is really good. The lost me big time when they got rid of Kocen.

Well I guess you won't be watching TWC anymore ever...John Hope died a decade ago...or there abouts...

Tough being 45+ plus on tv I guess... and I assume their salaries were pretty good (and thus desireable to get rid of) after years on the job. As to Kristina, she was the one all the wx weenie guys tuned in for about 10 years ago, but I woud say she has the Marny Stanier problem now.... if you know what I mean.

It's scary .... I know exactly what you mean :arrowhead:

It's been done. It's called AccuWeather.com

And we know how most of us feel about that...

Why can't any of these experienced people pull together knowledge and finances to start up their own channel or web-site.
They could have model discussions, guests, live chases etc.
I would pay a monthly fee for something like that.
In today's world with all the new technology this could be fantastic if done right.
Comments?

And I didn't mean to make it sound like these people got fired cause they were bad or anything (although like in anything some were better than others).

Yes, they were all technically laid off. But when you've been at a place as long as some of them have and they get rid of you for younger, cheaper talent, you know you were really just fired. And you have a grievance - it's really not fair.

Some really good people have been let go for no reason.......

John Hope, he was fantastic. Sadly he died a few years ago.

Gotta share my John Hope story here: In 2000, I was relocated to Atlanta. Went to a church near my office for All Saint's Day Mass that year and who's doing the readings? John Hope, of course! Took me awhile to pick up on that because - on air - he always looked so frail and old. However, in person, he was quite the natty dresser. Very cool experience! Of course, I was too starstruck to introduce myself.

Its like the end of an era, but in all honestly TWC stopped being must see tv for me about 5 years ago at least.

As in most downsizing, I'd like to see the useless people in the upper-middle areas of the organization be the ones to go. The first reflex is to throw out the people on the "front lines", while the people with ridiculously lengthy titles and paycheck numerals hang around to come up with useless ideas to roll downhill. I say if your job title has more than three words in it, into the sh*tter you go.

Actually, that's not true. Management and sales people are getting thrown underneath the bus also. What it truly comes down to is how much you make. If you are a young talent and making little, you will probably be fine. If you are an old, matured (and REPLACABLE/FORGETTABLE) talent that has risen up the salary ladder, you will likely get canned. Youth (with beauty) appears to be doing very well for most stations. Assistant news directors, photographers, etc. are losing their jobs also; you just don't hear about it as often. Believe me; the folks with your so quoted "lengthy titles" are getting many pink slips also.

I pretty much stopped watching TWC once they let PK go. In my opinion, everything went downhill for TWC when they changed the US background coloring scheme from brown to green. The second insult to me was when they changed their local forecast graphics. I was a true believer in their snow icon; several members use it as their avatar. In general, most of their on air folks are basically useless in my book. Stephanie Abrams has the most obnoxious attitude on air. The lack of intelligent presentation is stunning. The recent loss of their talent may eventually lead to their demise.

I agree with you. I would only watch for Winter Weather and to hear PK. I have not watched TWC for at least 6 years. I do miss those snow icons. I was flipping through channels about a month ago and now during the local forecasts, they show radars from all across the country. Ridiculous.

Its funny, I was watching the channel a few weeks ago and I thought they were actually talking about....weather. Must have been Bill Kennely or Mark Mancuso. Someone with actual meteorologist talent....

Too bad, whats been going on....but it doesn't surprise me. Cutbacks are every where. Its just too bad that lots of time real talent is sacrificed for cheaper things.

Instead of letting them go, why not just cut their salaries, or give them the choice at least?
