Has averaged 35*F, allowing for a 43/27 today.
I compared that average temp to the last 3 January's, 08, 07, 06.
Janaury 2008 had 7 days that were colder than a 35 average. About 23%
January 2007 had 12 days that were colder than a 35 average. About 38%.
January 2006 had a staggering 3 days that were colder than a 35 average. Slightly less than 10%.

So out of 93 Janaury days from the last 3 years, only 22 of them were colder than our recent 6 day run. About 24%, not quite 1 out of ever 4 Janaury days over the last 3 years has been as cold as this run.

It's a testimony to how awful mild those Jans were but it takes two to tango and it is also a tribute to the recent cold run.

If, really should not do it, I take the dramatic flip to cold in Jan 2007 out of it and just limit the set to the first 15 days of Janaury 07, then of 77 Janaury days Only 12(Twelve!) were colder than the 35*F average over the last 6 days!

...which is why when certain posters scream "blowtorch!!" in threads about impending 65 degree January weather for DC, people down here don't care. We've hit 70 degrees more often than not in January in the past 5 years.
