If the eyewall hits Chetumal directly, I'll genuinely be fearing for Josh's life.

I'm actually nervous and concerned for his safety. Seeing him report from what could be completely whiped off the map tomorrow is rather unnerving. I know one thing, I would no way in hell want to experience this storm in the middle of the night like he is going to do. It would be pure hell hearing all of that and not being able to see a thing. God be with you.

Sadly,I was thinking the same thing. I think it would be much better if he was not there. Screw the observations. Everything is going to be destroyed.

It certainly isnt, if this one hits Josh head on, he is going to have perhaps the most memorable night of his life. These are the kinds of winds that create total structural failure, and in that area of mexico, i fear the building codes arent exactly top notch

I hope he avoids that NW-NE eyewall. Maybe the southern side will ONLY have 130MPH sustained winds. :axe:

Sorry--had to resort to LOLcat wisdom; can't take it any more:

This is one helluva story. I thought this was cool until they upgraded Dean to a 5. I'd get the hell outta there if I was you Josh. We'll never know the difference.

I'm starting to get REALLY worried for him too! I saw he took some before pictures. It is going to be amazing to see these after pictures. Hopefully he'll add commentary too, which I'm sure he will. It's going to be some freaking intense footage. Stay safe Josh!!

Seriously Josh, dont feel like you let anyone down if you go inland some more. Dont ride it out there just for us, you will still have a heckuva story to tell, because you will be seeing the aftermath first hand.

1. He better be in a sturdy, concrete, multi-story hotel.

2. If he's not, he needs to find one or move up to the Felipe city (I don't remember the full name) before it's too late to do so.

Chuck,

I already sold my 2 kilos. How have you fared so far?

Josh, all kidding aside, you have made this situation very entertaining for all of us. We are excited for you, somewhat concerned, but realize you will witness some awesome phenomena and we will hear the story from the front line as it happens, and if we are lucky, in person at a later date. Great work, great instinct, and rock on.

I didn't catch his elevation, what is it?

Based on this site, looks like Josh is at somewhere between 30 and 40 feet elevation.

Josh in Mississippi the water went more than a mile inland. Keep that in mind. Do you have a rope of some sort or perhaps a sheet you can tie yourself to something - if worse comes to worse. Make sure you have some way to secure yourself - if the water were to come way inland. You have that bay there so I am not sure how that would work out. I would be making my safety plans now while there is still a little bit of light.

You would be scaring the sh** outte me right now if I were him.

In case you missed it Josh

osh in Mississippi the water went more than a mile inland. Keep that in mind. Do you have a rope of some sort or perhaps a sheet you can tie yourself to something - if worse comes to worse. Remember Andrew and Homestead. You may see some incredible damage as you try to make your way back to the north - if the roads are not washed out. Keep some space in your camera or somewhere for those photos. I guess you try to upload photos to your computer and save them as you go. How many gigs in cards do you have? Don't forget to back data up. Don't forget if things get extremely bad to waterproof your cards in a zip-lock bag or something like that. Lose the camera but save the images! Might want to charge your computer batteries as well - once power is lost then it might be awhile before you get that again. Same goes for the camera batteries - I assume you have extra batteries for everything.

If you lose the roof of the building or other - think now what do you want to save from the water? Did you buy some waterproof bags of some type? If not grab some zip-locks.

Though, now that I think about it, it might be easier for him to drive down to Belize City...and there will certainly be good structures there.

I felt a little better after the eye wobbled northward.

Now I'm just plain scared.

As I've said many times, Chetumal is going to be OBLITERATED if Dean hits just to the west or over it, as a strengthening 5. The city will be gone. His hotel had better be able to withstand 160 mph winds AND be high enough to not get wiped away by surge/waves (I THINK the bathymetry of the coastline there will mitigate massive surge, but enhance big waves).

Since he has no car, and it's after dark, his best option is to stay put. It would be crazy to get out driving at this hour.
